An asphalt plant groundman (or laborer) ensures the safe, continuous operation of the facility through manual labor, heavy cleaning, and basic maintenance. They maintain the site by cleaning conveyor belts, shoveling asphalt, cleaning spills, and performing preventive maintenance on machinery in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
- Cleaning up spilled asphalt, sweeping, shoveling, and operating a skid steer to clear debris.
- Greasing, oiling, and performing minor repairs on conveyor belts, crushers, and hot plant machinery.
- Loading/unloading materials and assisting with the management of stockpiles or leftover mix.
- Maintaining a clean job site to eliminate hazards and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Supporting the plant operator and aiding with daily production tasks.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience
- Experience in construction or industrial environments is a plus.
Work Requirements
- Willingness to work long hours, nights, and weekends.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Proficiency with hand/power tools and potentially welding/torching experience.
Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift 50-90 pounds, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb on equipment.
